Edward Dormer, a Philadelphia-based artist, designer, and cinematographer, examines convolutions between material systems, environmental forces, and human intervention—revealing what has been folded into process and history. Practice operates through sculpture, spatial design, and moving image—often through infiltration rather than invitation.

     LUCARNE, the conceptual studio, produces site-specific installations across the United States and Europe, from industrial basements to remote landscapes. Design work spans mission-critical systems in defense, medical, and imaging contexts, including naval navigation environments, infrared night-vision systems, and diagnostic imaging prototypes. SUGARCUBE, a twenty-year installation in Old City Philadelphia, collapsed the separation between functioning retail and continuous artwork, establishing a hybrid framework that shaped both experiential design and curatorial practice.

     Cinematography is rooted in the same conceptual foundation, developed through long-term collaborations with choreographers, dance companies, and performance organizations. Single-camera operations capture through-lines of movement, sound, and intent.

     Recognized by the National Endowment for the Arts, the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, The Pew Center for Arts & Heritage, and arts organizations across Europe and the United States.
