Colophon

Ver 11.2025

This page documents the conceptual, typographic, and technical decisions that constitute LUCARNE’s digital presence. Every choice reflects a convergence of functional clarity, aesthetic discipline, and temporal inquiry: the architecture of the visible site as a trace of what remains in motion.

  Typography

Raleway: Employed for all headers, the site logo, and navigation. Selected for its clean geometric form, versatility in weight, and architectural presence. Variants include 500 (navigation), 900 (logo).
EB Garamond: Used exclusively for body text, delivering classical readability, refined letter spacing, and historical resonance. All typographic treatments—spacing, line height, and subtle kerning—are calibrated for both digital precision and conceptual legibility.
Typographic abstraction: Severe compression, expanded spacing, overlapping forms—creates distinct graphic conditions while maintaining technical accessibility for text selection, translation, and screen-reading.

  Color Palette

#1A0101—Primary identity: deep oxblood, used in text and structural elements
#f54927—Accent markers and dingbats: emphasizing temporal reference and visual punctuation
#F3F4F5—Secondary surfaces and text shadows: providing subtle depth and material layering. Every color selection supports both visual hierarchy and conceptual resonance.
#CC9900—Benzene ring marker: golden brass, used for page titles and structural notation. Suggests oxidation, elemental presence, and material warmth.

  Design & Layout

Conceived and designed by Edward Dormer. Spatial decisions, rotations, and shadow placements are intentional: the logo shadow is slightly offset to suggest dimensional layering, headers are scaled to maintain proportional relationships across devices, and line heights in body text were chosen for readability and poetic cadence. The grid and spacing sustain both the site’s functional clarity and its abstract aesthetic.

  SYMBOLIC NOTATION

Benzene ring (⌬) functions as architectural marker and structural threshold. References molecular diagrams in Molecular Notation and broader investigation of pattern, chemistry, and material structure.

  Technical Footnotes

Built on WordPress with custom CSS overrides, responsive design across all screen sizes, typographic smoothing, and pixel-perfect shadow alignment. Every technical choice is made with both digital fidelity and conceptual integrity in mind. Browser variations, anti-aliasing, and shadow offsets were all tested to preserve the intended visual experience.

  Documentation Standards

All photographic and cinematic media on this site represent selected installations, performances, locations, and materials. No AI generation or digital augmentation has been applied. Image files preserve original capture data, and all documentation reflects work as executed in physical space and time. Each image functions as both record and evidence — an index of material presence, light, and duration.

  Conceptual Framework

The colophon itself is part of the LUCARNE inquiry: material, trace, and temporality are considered in every element. Typography, color, and shadows collectively form a field through which work emerges. This page is a ledger of intention and an invitation to explore the architecture of the visible—an echo of what remains in motion.
